A Patient with Recurrent Urinary Tract Infection (Relapse) in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

Abstract
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a problem found throughout the world and infects more than 150 million people every year worldwide. UTIs often do not occur only once but can occur repeatedly. A study showed that in women who first experienced a UTI, 27% of them would experience recurrence within six months and 2.7% experienced a second recurrence in the same time period. We report a case of 49 years old woman with recurrent UTI, nephrolithiasis dextra and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Urine culture had isolated Escherichia coli that were resistant to Ampicillin, Ciprofloxacin, and Levofloxacin. Antibiotic sensitivity test showed positive extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL). The patient was then treated with Amikacin, Paracetamol, Metilprednisolone, Calcium lactate, Haloperidol, Asam valproate, Fenitoin, Donepezil and Folic acid. The patient was discharged after 16 days of treatment in good condition.
