Abstract
Characterization in a removable partial denture is easily accomplished to achieve treatment objectives. In fixed partial denture characterization is mainly seen in the form of imparting different stains in the restoration. Characterization of designing fixed partial denture is necessary when diastema has to be incorporated within a fixed partial denture to overcome the problems associated with an increased mesiodistal width of partial edentulous spaces. We present a case of a young female patient who had a Kennedy class 3 partial edentulous situation with an anterior open bite and wide generalized diastemas. A specially designed two cantilever prosthesis was fabricated using a loop connecter between the pontic and the respective retainer. The reasons for choosing such a design was influenced by existing occlusion. Individual cantilever prosthesis connected by a loop connector provided a uniform and esthetic distribution of diastema within the fixed partial denture.
