Proniosome: A Strategic Approach for Improving Oral Drug Delivery

Abstract
The development of drug delivery systems using nanotechnology is an effort to improve human health by enabling the effectiveness of active drug ingredients by overcoming various physicochemical characteristics through efforts to overcome solubility and bioavailability problems of active drug ingredients. Niosomes are one of the delivery systems being developed to improve the effectiveness of drug solubility, but there are several limitations in the form of physical instability, aggregation, fusion, leakage in vesicles, and hydrolysis. The development of pro-vesicles such as proniosomes, provides a breakthrough in overcoming these problems as well as being a potential alternative dosage form. Proniosomes provide a stable and scalable alternative to niosomes for expanding oral bioavailability, addressing solubility issues, and augmenting drug permeability across biological membranes.
