Management of Bilateral Mandibular Angle Fractures: A Case Report

Abstract
Introduction: Bilateral mandibular angle fracture is a rare fracture of the mandible.
Objective: This case report describes the treatment of bilateral mandibular angle fracture. The intended results were restoring occlusal relation that was dislocated due to trauma.
Case: A 50-year-old female patient was referred to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hasan Sadikin Hospital. The patient's main complaint was trauma to the face after falling from her bicycle. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed fractures on both angles of the mandible.
Case management: Early emergency treatment was performed according to Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) principle. After the patient's condition was stabilized, elective surgery was conducted to return a previously dislocated occlusion due to trauma.
Conclusion: This case concludes that open reduction is more recommended for bilateral mandibular angle fracture due to difficulties obtaining normal occlusion with closed reduction.
