A cross-sectional study on Instagram posts on Autism

Abstract
Abstract:
Background: Autism spectrum disorder has been less understood and diagnosed. Many sufferers out there have unspoken words form their side. Our study was conducted to know the awareness and information of autism being spread via the social media.

Objective: This study was conducted to assess the accuracy of content of autism spectrum on social media like Instagram.

Material and Methods: It is cross section type of observation study conducted over a period of one month. We evaluated posts with hashtags of: #autism, #autismawareness, #autismsupport, #autismacceptance, #autismspectrum posts posted during the month of sept - oct 2022. Of all the posts - 453 top posts were evaluated on the basis of - relevance, posted by whom (survivor, healthcare industry, doctor, parent), content of the post (is it about diagnosis, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, support groups) and number of likes , comments .

Results: The survey's findings showed that the patient or person experiencing the condition is the source of the greatest amount of disease awareness. They impart their knowledge in order to assist and comprehend those going through a similar situation. 259 entries were made by sufferers, followed by 90 postings from websites and the health and wellness sector, who have stepped up to recognise autism and assist the survivors. 79.9% of posts were entirely of the specified value, indicating that only accurate and positive information was being discussed, filtering out rumours and inanities.

Conclusion:
According to the study, 362 out of the 453 postings, or 79.9% of them, included genuine information. The engagement rate of the examined posts is 7% for the entire sample of posts that were analysed.
