A thyroidectomy revealing squamous metaplasia: a case report.

Abstract
Squamous metaplasia is an exception in the normal thyroid gland and is usually caused by a tumor orinflammatory process.
To our knowledge, rare cases have been reported in the literature. Therefore, the lack of publisheddata compared to other cases in the literature was a major limitation.
We report the case of a 24-year-old patient who was admitted to the endocrinology department ofthe Hassan II University Hospital in Fez for cervical swelling, clinical examination found a WHO stageII goiter with a large nodule as confirmed by cervical ultrasound. The patient underwent totalthyroidectomy for cosmetic concerns. The histological study showed no squamous metaplasia. Thepatient was treated with replacement therapy and had a good outcome.
