Abstract
Surgical site infections are those types of surgical-related infectious processes. This cases of infection can happen up to one month after surgery or up to three months when using implants. Surgical site infection is among the second or third most common infections among people undergoing surgical procedures. For surgical site infection to occur, there are elements associated with the team and the patient. Most surgical site infections occur on average four to six days after surgery, in some cases depending on the etiology of the infectious process. However, it is observed that in most medical centers prevention is restricted only to the period in which the patient is hospitalized, thus, it does not reflect the effective incidence of these infections and may cause underreporting, as this condition, may become evident after medical discharge. Thus, taking into account the evils to which patients may be subjected, it is necessary to value measures that act on control after discharge from the patient, since it is known that the reported rates of surgical site infections are below the true occurrence due to underreporting.
