Management of desmoplastic ameloblastoma: a case report

Abstract
Desmoplastic ameloblastoma is a new type of ameloblastoma which is characterized by specific clinical, imaging, and histological features.
Contrary to the posterior region of the mandible being the most common anatomical location for classic ameloblastoma, desmoplastic ameloblastoma involves the anterior-premolar region of jaws more frequently.
Radio graphically, it either exhibits a mixed radiolucent-radiopaque lesion or presents with multilocular radiolucency’s that have ill-defined or well-defined borders. It usually shows cortical expansion.
Histologically, this unusual variant is characterized by extensive stromal collagenization or desmoplasia with small nests and strands of odontogenic epithelium.
Recurrence after incomplete removal is a feature of desmoplastic ameloblastoma. Therefore, it is recommended that treatment is based on complete surgical resection.
Post-surgical prosthetic rehabilitation has an interest in the management of aesthetic and functional objectives.
The purpose of this article is to report a case of desmoplastic ameloblastoma on which we present the diagnostic approach as well as the surgical-prosthetic management.
