Profile of F-Wave in acute phase patient with Guillain-Barre syndrome

Abstract
Introduction: Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is an acute auto-immune mediated demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy, with common symptoms shown acute weakness. Electromyography (EMG) in the acute phase hopefully will give a contribution to diagnose patients with GBS.
Method: This descriptive study is retrospectively conducted in Sanglah Hospital outpatient neurology clinic from July to December 2019. Data was taken from the medical report patient with GBS that undergoes EMG in neurology clinic at Sanglah hospital. Inclusion criteria are patients that already been diagnosed with GBS based on history taking, physical examination, and cerebrospinal fluid analysis, with maximal EMG examination was four days after the symptoms appear.
Result: This study was selected 10 participants with GBS. With four males and six females. The mean age from this study is 41 years old, 10 years old is the youngest one, and 72 years old is the oldest. F-wave was abnormal in all participant, with 4 participants shown absent and 6 participants shown prolonged F-wave (mean 71.4 ms)
Conclusion: Abnormal F-wave founding can help to diagnose the patient with GBS in an acute setting that often didn’t show block conduction.
