Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) caused by Benzalkonium Chloride (BAC) 15% intoxication

Abstract
Respiratory complications in cases of corrosive intoxication are very common, pneumonia, respiratory tract injury until Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). the most common cause of mortality is the result of tracheal necrosis, oesophagal or gastric perforation followed by mediastinitis or peritonitis. Benzalkonium Chloride (BAC) is a corrosive alkali compound widely used as a disinfectant, topical antiseptic, germicidal and algaecidal, both in housing or hospital use, where the content above or equal to 10% that can give toxic effect if taken or inhaled by a human. This case illustrates how BAC intoxication has a corrosive effect on the digestive tract to the respiratory tract which eventually causes patients to suffer from ARDS by focusing on the right diagnosis and therapy of ARDS.
